Unhappy stress has numerous negative outcomes on the body’s circulatory, hormonal and muscular systems. The nervous system is so powerful, we really know only about 10% of what our nerves are really capable of!
A few recent studies showed how when singers feel increased levels of stress, their vocal performance decrease significantly. The stress hormone Cortisol has negative effects on the nervous system that controls your vocal and breathing muscles – called the Vagus Nerve. The most common outcome reported was feeling higher levels of ‘vocal ‘tension’.
So managing your stress levels as singer, is crucial to your vocal performance and general well being. Relaxation, relationships, quality exercise like yoga and cardiovascular work, happy holidays and healthy management of lists and time are always helpful to decreasing your stress hormones.
